In the case of drugs, the packaging not only contributes to the marketing mix but also has a significant impact on the qualities, use, and shelf life of the product. The safety of children, the elderly, and medications from damage, germs, the outside environment, and microbes must all be considered in drug packaging. Types of pharmaceutical packaging:
- Packaging
- Aluminium foil
- Vials/Bottles for Injectables
- Boxes
- Board
- Paper Lamini tubes
- Combinations Based on PVC
The packaging used by the pharmaceutical industry varies from drug to medicament and frequently includes three tiers, referred to as primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging.
1. The items that initially surround and support the product, also known as the primary packaging system, include blister packs, prefilled syringes, IV containers, ampoules and vials, prefilled syringes, and other items. Blister packs, prefilled syringes, IV containers, ampoules and vials, prefilled syringes, and other items that actually come into contact with the product or that may have an immediate impact on its shelf life are examples of aluminium foil subcomponents. 1. The primary packaging system consists of the materials that first enclose and support the product, or those package elements.
2. Injection trays, cartons, and boxes are utilised as secondary packaging solutions to group large products together outside of the main container.
3. For bulk handling and shipping, tertiary packaging solutions such barrels, containers, edge guards, etc. are used.
