Title : Exploring the psychopharmacological potential of indian squash (pracitrullus fistulosus): A review-based study

Abstract:

The Cucurbitaceae family, which comprises more than 900 species of gourds, melons, squash, and cucumbers, has long been valued for its nutritional and medicinal properties. Recent phytochemical studies suggest that it contains bioactive compounds, including alkaloids, flavonoids, and cucurbitacins, which may exhibit neuroactive effects. The Cucurbitaceae family comprises various plants with significant medicinal properties, yet their psycho-pharmacological potential has not been explored. This review focuses on Indian squash (Pracitrullus fistulosus) and its potential role in neurological and psychological health. Through an extensive literature review, we analyzed various phytochemicals present in Indian squash that exhibit properties related to neuroprotection, anxiolysis, and cognitive enhancement. Bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and polyphenols have shown promising interactions with the central nervous system, indicating their potential in the management of psychological disorders. This study highlights the importance of future research on Indian squash leaves, as they may contain potent compounds with therapeutic applications in mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, and neurodegenerative diseases. Further pharmacological and clinical investigations are needed to establish the efficacy and mechanism of action of these phytochemicals. This research paves the way for therapeutics developing plant-based neurotherapeutics from Praecitrullus fistulosus, providing a natural and sustainable approach to mental healthcare.
